random: important tip for budding radio enthusiasts

If the subject line describes you, and you own your own property... you will want to remove any solid state dimmer switches from your proximity.

If you are in a condo or something, and have neighbors, there’s nothing you can do and you can ignore this.  You’re kinda screwed anyway, since you put up a decent antenna.

But everyone else... if you’re serious about radio, you WILL (eventually) remove all the dimmer switches on your property.

Now, if some place like a home theater would really benefit from a dimming circuit, there is another option which won’t create interference, but (shock, surprise) it costs a lot more.  It’s also surge resistant and just generally more durable, electrically; that solution is the variable transformer dimmer.  The good news is, with LED lighting, you don’t need a very big transformer, so the cost is a lot lower than it used to be with incandescents!

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled tool crashing, thumb-bashing, table-drilling, and fixture-welding.
