This series on the BBC is something everyone can get something out of.
The most important episode to listen to for younger folks is the one I just heard:
“How We Broke The Future” because it exposes that the current very poor state of affairs in consumer durable goods - be it phones, cars, appliances, etc - which is to say, Planned or Designed Obsolescence in a variety of ways, exists with intent by profiteers.
They explain how it is unnecessary, ultimately harmful for society, and more importantly, they make clear that we could have durable goods which are just as excellent and amazing, at reasonable prices, but which last much longer.
And
they announce that a growing number of governments - acting in the
interests of their governed societies - are actually making Planned
Obscolescence unlawful.
Also they had Tim Hunkin on the show, and Tim is always worth paying attention to.
Before he dies, yo.
