Stabistor And The Bipolar Power Supply

 "The stabistor was the crucial invention which first
made possible the stabbing of others over the internet..."

  This morning I was watching a fellow repair a vintage Hewlett-Packard instrument and the word "stabistor" came up.  Now, I got into electronics in the 1970s, I'm retired now, and I've never heard of a stabistor.
